About us

Acknowledgement

The Energy and Water Ombudsman (Victoria) (EWOV) acknowledges the Traditional Owners of Country of which we operate throughout Victoria and recognises continuing connection to land, waters and culture.

We pay our respects to Elders, past and present, and extend that respect to all First Nations peoples of Australia.

Our RAP

The launch of our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan is a big step forward for EWOV and is the first step in our organisation’s reconciliation journey. While we know that true reconciliation requires ongoing effort, this Plan provides us with a structured approach to help guide us in engaging in reconciliation meaningfully. Our Reflect RAP demonstrates our commitment to strengthen our engagement and partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and increase cultural awareness across our organisation.

Catherine Wolthuizen, Ombudsman and CEO

"Reconciliation is not just a concept or a set of actions – it's a shared responsibility that requires all of us to listen, to learn and to take action. It’s about creating a workplace where everyone, of all backgrounds can thrive and feel valued. It is about respect, understanding, and creating opportunities. It’s about honouring the histories, cultures, and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples while working together to heal past wrongs and build a future based on equity and inclusion."

About the artwork

EWOV - “Pathways of Harmony: Embracing Culture and Connection”

In the lands of Victoria, the Energy and Water Ombudsman (EWOV) stands as a bridge for reconciliation, working to harmonise the energies and waters that sustain life. As an independent Ombudsman scheme, EWOV’s mission is to help make energy and water markets work better for all people. In our journey towards reconciliation, we challenge ourselves at EWOV to be more accessible, reaching out to those with grievances, understanding their issues, and working collaboratively to find resolutions.

This commitment to reconciliation and connection with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is beautifully captured in a unique piece of artwork representing EWOV’s reconciliation journey. At the centre of the artwork is a gathering symbol, representing EWOV, its people, and the community united in sharing knowledge, educating, and embracing Aboriginal culture. Pathways lead from the top left corner through the gathering symbol to the bottom right-hand corner, symbolising the journey each person takes to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal culture and history. Emerging from this journey, they are enriched with a greater awareness of Australia’s rich heritage.

This artwork, created by Lani Balzan, a proud Aboriginal woman hailing from the Wiradjuri people of the three river tribe, is more than a visual representation; it is a testament to EWOV’s ongoing commitment to reconciliation, symbolising their dedication to understanding, respecting, and integrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures into our mission to serve the Victorian community.
